Financial Technology in the Egyptian Tourism Sector: An Analytical Study of Opportunities and Applications

Abstract

The rapid evolution of Financial Technology (Fintech) is transforming global tourism by introducing innovative solutions in digital payments, financial intermediation, investment tools, and process automation. In the context of Egypt’s tourism sector, there is growing interest in leveraging Fintech to enhance efficiency, and broaden access to financial services. The research aims to investigate both the current applications and future opportunities of Fintech within the Egyptian tourism sector. It depended on descriptive-analytical approach; a structured questionnaire was administered to a sample of 152 IT professionals working in tourism sector. Findings indicate that digital payment technologies are the most widely adopted, contributing to improved customer service and operational efficiency. Financial intermediation tools are moderately applied but show strong potential for growth Investment technologies and infrastructure. The study highlights the sector’s openness to further Fintech integration, provided that infrastructure development, digital literacy, and policy support are enhanced. Thus, the study recommends increasing investments in digital payment systems such as e-wallets and e-invoicing to improve operational efficiency and tourist satisfaction. It also highlights the need for developing customized Fintech tools tailored to the specific needs of the tourism sector, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises, to maximize opportunities and ensure broader adoption.
