Abstract

Many factors and several stages of development affected Mallawi city since its erection and until nowadays. Mallawi city today is a very beautiful populated city, filled with many of old and historic buildings, which tell us many stories about the past of which, whether through the architectural styles or by keeping the names of its original owners. Special style of architecture and art is the distinguished feature of the civilization of Mallawi city during the nineteenth twentieth and centuries. That style appears through the historic palaces and buildings of the city, as many of which still exist in a good state of preservation.
However, the historic buildings are not the only remains of the civilization of that era, as the traditional city layout has been retained until nowadays in the old quarters of the city. The traditional city layout explains the life during that time as well as illustrates the stages of development and urban expansion. At the beginning of the twentieth century, the city had two different layout styles. The oldest quarters have been distinguished with narrow winding streets, lanes and crowded markets, while the newest districts have been distinguished with wide and straight streets, formal open spaces and modern trade centers and shops.
